Do the natural flavourings in Sodii contain maltodextrin?

Do the natural flavourings in Sodii contain maltodextrin? - Fitness New Zealand

Sodii understand that not everyone enjoys the neutral and salty taste of unflavoured hydration blends. That’s why they offer a range of delicious, flavoured options that are just as refreshing as they are effective. Each flavour has been carefully developed to achieve the perfect balance of salty, sweet, and sour, while maintaining their commitment to simple, clean, and real ingredients.

Sodii's natural flavours are inspired by real fruit, using authentic fruit oils to deliver a great taste. For example, their Salty Citrus flavour contains lemon oil. However, creating a natural, high-quality flavour isn’t as simple as just adding fruit oil to an electrolyte blend. A small amount of a carrier ingredient is needed to hold the flavouring. The most commonly used carrier in health foods and supplements is maltodextrin, chosen for its taste, mixability, and product performance.

The maltodextrin used in their natural flavouring is derived from corn through a process called hydrolysis, which breaks down starch. While maltodextrin is technically a complex carbohydrate, it is quickly digested. When consumed in large quantities, it can cause a rise in blood glucose levels, like any carbohydrate. However, the trace amounts in our products are minimal and unlikely to have any noticeable effect. Internal testing, including the use of blood glucose monitors, has shown that drinking their hydration blends does not significantly impact blood sugar levels.

The amount of maltodextrin varies slightly between flavours. Our Salty Berry flavour contains the least, with just 0.15g per serving, while the others range from 0.38g to 0.4g per serving. To put this into perspective, a single almond or olive contains around 0.3g of carbohydrates—meaning the amount in our hydration blends is negligible for most people.

Sodii recognise that everyone’s nutritional needs are different, and sensitivities to carbohydrates can vary. If you prefer a product with minimal ingredients, we recommend trying our Unflavoured option, which is completely free from flavouring and maltodextrin.

As always, it’s best to consult your healthcare provider for personalised advice on supplements.

Sodii remain committed to continuously improving our formulas to provide the best in hydration, nutrition, and taste. If new, effective carrier ingredients become available, we’ll be sure to test them!
